340-Unit Luxury Apartment Complex Sparks Community Debate — Planning Commission Vote Sept. 2
A proposed 340-unit luxury apartment complex near the Florence-Union border on U.S. 42 is heading toward a crucial vote. Silverman & Company is behind the project, which would feature studios through two-bedrooms priced from $1,450 to $2,850/month — and Florence has already endorsed it, planning to annex the development. Dozens of residents packed an August 5th public hearing to raise concerns about traffic and whether the road infrastructure can handle more growth, so all eyes are on the Boone County Planning Commission's September 2nd vote. Florence City Council Greenlights Inclusive Playground for Autistic Children

Circus Comes to Boone County Fairgrounds September 3–6
Cirque Du Luxe is rolling into Burlington's Boone County Fairgrounds next weekend (Sept. 3–6) with international acrobats, comedy clowns, jugglers, aerial performers, and the signature "Motorcycle Globe of Death." BOONE COUNTY HISTORY
Florence has gone by a lot of names over the years, including "Crossroads," "Maddensville," and the unforgettable "Polecat." By 1828 it had settled on Connersville, named after a local landowner, but the U.S. Post Office ruled that another Kentucky town already held that name and forced a change. The state legislature made "Florence" official in 1830, though why that particular name was chosen has never been recorded.
