Boone County 911 Dispatch Earns Kentucky Agency of the Year
Boone County's Public Safety Communication Center has been named Kentucky's 2026 PSAP 911 Agency of the Year by the Kentucky Emergency Number Association. The honor recognizes dispatchers who coordinated 15 law enforcement agencies, four fire departments, and two emergency management teams during the August 2025 shooting of two Boone County Sheriff's deputies—all while managing routine calls simultaneously. Boone County is now actively recruiting new dispatchers to join the team.

I-75 Covington Off-Ramp Closes Permanently Starting This Week
The southbound I-75 off-ramp onto Fifth Street in Covington (Exit 192) closes permanently on or after September 14 as part of the ongoing Brent Spence Corridor Project. Southbound drivers exiting at Exit 192 must now use Crescent Avenue, then turn right onto Third Street and right again onto Philadelphia Street to reach West Fifth Street. Detour signage will be posted. The northbound Fifth Street ramp remains open.

SD1 Board Meets Tuesday Amid Boone County Sewer Route Controversy
The Sanitation District No. 1 board holds its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, September 15 at 12:30 p.m. at its boardroom at 1045 Eaton Drive in Fort Wright, just days after conservationist Gayle Pille brought the disputed Woolper Creek sewer route to the Boone County Fiscal Court. Shape Boone County's Future at Free Community Forum Sept. 30
The Northern Kentucky Area Development District is bringing its community planning forum series to Boone County on Tuesday, September 30 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at the Boone County Public Library Main Branch, 1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington. Residents, business owners, and local leaders will use interactive mapping exercises to build a community "wish list" covering housing, infrastructure, workforce, and small business priorities — input that feeds directly into future land-use, zoning, and economic development decisions for the county. Campbell and Kenton county forums are also available Sept. 21 and 28 for those who can't make the Boone date.

Kroger Reports $12B Spending Shift as Rivals Gain Ground
Cincinnati-based Kroger, which operates five locations across Boone County, lost more than $12 billion in consumer packaged goods spending over the past year as customers shifted to Amazon, Walmart, and Costco. The pressure is local too: Publix has entered the Northern Kentucky market, adding competition closer to home. Lower-income shoppers, the chain's core base, cut spending 5.2% year-over-year amid SNAP reductions and fuel costs, while overall trip counts dropped by millions. The Dinsmore farm was never a single-crop operation. James Dinsmore ran sheep and goats across the hills above the Ohio River. He planted grape vineyards and used the harvest to produce wine. He grew willows and brought in German immigrant workers to run a basket-making operation, selling to markets in Cincinnati. Enslaved workers and tenant laborers worked the land alongside them, cultivating grains, orchard crops, cider, and wool for the Cincinnati trade.

The farmhouse had roughly 20 rooms, designed for comfort rather than to display wealth. The Dinsmores furnished it with goods purchased at Shillito's and McAlpin's, dry goods merchants in Cincinnati. In those early years, three daughters were growing up inside a home James Dinsmore had built to last. He had the land, the labor, and the markets. He had his family around him. Then the losses began.
