CVG to Run 700-Person Emergency Drill
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will stage a full-scale emergency exercise this Friday, September 18, at 9 a.m. More than 700 responders from nearly 100 agencies will simulate two aircraft crashes on a closed runway, with roughly 140 volunteers portraying injured patients who will be transported to nine area hospitals. A media briefing is set for September 17 at 12:30 p.m. at CVG's South Fire Station. The FAA requires the drill every three years.

Florence Reviews First Sewer Code Overhaul Since 1983
Florence City Council is weighing its first major sanitary sewer regulation update in more than 40 years, alongside targeted drinking water rule changes. Proposed updates include a $350 fire hydrant flow test fee, new habitual violator penalties for customers with four or more infractions, and higher connection fees for new development. Current customers won't be affected — Public Services Director Eric Hall stated the changes do "not increase water rates in any way, shape, or form." No vote has been taken yet.

Stonehouse Road Closing Daily Starting Thursday for Repairs
Stonehouse Road (KY 1997) in Boone County will be fully closed each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Thursday, September 17, for cross-pipe repairs. The road will reopen each evening and is expected to be fully restored by Tuesday, September 22. Drivers should plan detours during daytime hours for the remainder of the week.

Boone County Library Selected for National Reading Program
Boone County Public Library has been chosen as one of 40 libraries nationwide for the Yiddish Book Center's Public Libraries Program. The Scheben Branch in Union will host a reading group exploring Yiddish literature and Jewish cultural identity. A BCPL staff member will attend a workshop in Amherst, Massachusetts in November. "We're excited to introduce our community to the richness of Yiddish literature," said PR Director Jennifer Cheek.

Julia Dinsmore had arrived at Burlington Pike as a child of nine. She would not leave it for more than 80 years. From 1872, she managed the farm, kept sheep, tended the grape vineyards, and raised her nieces, the daughters of her late sister Isabella, as though they were her own. Julia never married.

She had been sending poetry to the Times-Democrat in New Orleans for years when, in 1910, Doubleday, Page and Company published her collection "Verses and Sonnets" to favorable reviews. She had built a correspondence with Theodore Roosevelt, who admired her writing.

In 1926, Julia Stockton Dinsmore was 93 years old and visiting her great-niece Isabella Greenway in Santa Barbara, California. She died there on April 19, after a hip fracture. Her body was returned to Kentucky and buried at the Dinsmore Homestead Cemetery on Burlington Pike. The farm did not close with her. It passed to the next generation of her family, and the generation after that.
