GO Pantry Lands $30,000 ADM Cares Grant for Weekend Food Program
GO Pantry, the Northern Kentucky nonprofit dedicated to feeding hungry kids, has been awarded a $30,000 grant from ADM Cares to support its Weekend GO Bag program, which sends meals home with children who may otherwise go without. Beyond the dollars, ADM employees regularly volunteer in GO Pantry's warehouse — sorting donations, packing GO Bags and GO Boxes, and keeping daily operations running. "Thank you for helping us feed the future," the organization said in announcing the partnership.

Boone County Bridge on Richardson Road Gets Weight Restriction
A recent inspection by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet revealed structural deterioration on the Richardson Road (KY 842) bridge east of Dixie Highway in Boone County, resulting in a 3-ton weight reduction. Before Boone County could govern, it had to know where it stopped. That meant surveyors, boots on the ground, following the natural breaks in the land and negotiating where Campbell County ended and this new place began. It was winter work in rough country.

The northern boundary was easy. The Ohio River had been the edge of American territory for years, wide and cold and non-negotiable. On the other side was the Northwest Territory. On this side was Kentucky. No surveyor needed to argue about that line.

The interior was more complicated. The new county's borders followed the geography as much as the politics of the moment allowed, tracing ridgelines and creek beds through hills that didn't lend themselves to straight edges. What emerged was a county shaped by the land itself, something that would prove true of its character as well as its borders. Thursday, we head to a small clearing at the headwaters of Allen's Fork, where two men donated the land that would become the county's beating heart.
