Clay Wade Bailey Bridge: Single-Lane Closures Tuesday
Crews will perform maintenance on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge between Covington and Cincinnati on Tuesday, September 8, with the northbound right lane closed 9 a.m. to noon and the southbound right lane closed noon to 3:30 p.m. One lane remains open in each direction throughout the work period. Boone County commuters who cross into Cincinnati should plan accordingly.

I-471 Lane Closures Begin Tuesday in Boone County
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled daytime right-lane closures on I-471 southbound near the Grand Avenue overpass (mile 3.22) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, for tree trimming. A larger bridge painting project on Memorial Parkway over I-471 begins Wednesday, September 9, with overnight lane closures expected through November 15, 2026. Check TRIMARC for real-time conditions.

Dixie Hwy Resurfacing Nearly Done; I-75 Bridge Work Resumes Tuesday
Milling and paving on Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) in Boone County is complete. Permanent striping remains before the project closes out. Separately, concrete patching crews suspended work on area interstate bridge decks for the Labor Day holiday weekend and that work resumes Tuesday, September 8. Drivers should also note that the KY 8 Licking River Bridge at the Kenton/Campbell County line remains closed with a free TANK shuttle available as an alternate.

KY Small Businesses: Apply for Tax Credits Up to $25K by Nov. 1
Gov. Andy Beshear is urging Kentucky small businesses to apply for the Kentucky Small Business Tax Credit (KSBTC), which offers $3,500–$25,000 in annual state income tax credits. Businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees that have added at least one net new full-time job and invested $5,000+ in qualifying equipment in the past 24 months are eligible. Applications received by November 1 will be reviewed for 2026 eligibility.

NKU Launches Norse Ventures Fund to Back Regional Startups
Northern Kentucky University has launched the Norse Ventures Fund, an investment initiative targeting early-stage companies founded by NKU alumni, faculty, and students in sectors including technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. Managing director Chad Scott said the fund is "about creating opportunity on multiple levels" — investing in regional companies while giving students hands-on venture capital experience.

Florence Y'alls Open Frontier League Playoffs Wednesday at Thomas More Stadium
The Florence Y'alls are heading to the postseason for the first time since 2021. The Y'alls host the Washington (Pa.) Wild Things, the Central Division champions, in Game 1 of a best-of-three series Wednesday night at Thomas More Stadium. Games 2 and 3 then move to Washington, with the series winner advancing to the Midwest Conference championship final.

When the Latonia Race Course opened in Florence in 1959, it did not happen by accident. The man behind it was Matt Winn Williamson, grandson of Colonel Matt J. Winn, the Churchill Downs promoter who spent decades turning the Kentucky Derby into a national institution. Williamson led a community effort to bring horse racing back to Northern Kentucky after a 20-year absence.

Florence was the right place at the right time. The city's population had climbed from 1,325 residents in 1950 to nearly 6,000 by 1960, one of the most dramatic growth runs in Boone County history. A city on the rise needed somewhere to be. Williamson gave Florence a racetrack.
