I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

BOONE COUNTY HISTORY
Slavery and Freedom | The Underground Railroad and Those Who Helped
The Underground Railroad was not a railroad, and it had no single route. It was a network of people, Black and white, who hid, fed, and guided freedom seekers. In the Boone County borderlands, some of those people lived on the Kentucky side, and some lived across the river.
Samuel Barkshire was freed in Boone County in 1833. A few years later he had started a business in Rising Sun, Indiana, and was living there with his wife and six children. The family helped many people escape to freedom. Nancy Hawkins, who had once enslaved Samuel Barkshire, later moved to Rising Sun to live with the family after her husband died. She helped with their Underground Railroad work on several known occasions, including hiding freedom seekers from her former Boone County neighbors.
Helping carried real risk. In 1853, neighbors accused Dr. Thomas Trundle of helping enslaved people escape. His bail was set at $17,000, and he was held in Independence after a change of venue. The accounts of what he actually did are conflicting and rest on hearsay, and no verdict is recorded. In 1847, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against John Van Zandt, an Ohio abolitionist who had given a ride to people escaping from Boone County slaveholder Wharton Jones. Friday, we look at the freedom seekers themselves.
