I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

BOONE COUNTY HISTORY

First People | What the Land Still Holds

When the last Shawnee hunting parties withdrew north of the Ohio and the settlers began to stay, they did not move into empty country. They moved into a landscape that had been shaped by human hands for twelve thousand years.

The burial mounds and village sites of the Fort Ancient people are still in Boone County, documented along the rivers and creek beds that run through it. The site at Petersburg, where hundreds of people once kept storage pits and ceremonial plazas, sits beneath the same ridge the settlers found when they arrived. The trails worn between the river and the salt licks became the routes the first roads followed, because the logic of the land does not change just because the people walking it do.

The name Kentucky itself comes from a Native word, though scholars still debate its exact meaning. The settlers who named a county after Daniel Boone and built a courthouse in Burlington did not spend much time thinking about what they were inheriting. They were too busy building.

If you would like to read more about the Fort Ancient people of Boone County, the Kentucky Archaeological Survey has published a free booklet on the subject: The Prehistoric Farmers of Boone County, Kentucky
