The Florence Y'alls' first playoff run since 2021 ended Sunday in a 9-8 walk-off loss at EQT Park after Saturday's game was postponed. Florence dropped Game 1 at home, 8-3, then rallied for a 6-5 Game 2 victory behind Brett Blomquist's eighth-inning RBI double. SD1 Board Meets Tuesday Amid Boone County Sewer Route Controversy

I-75 Covington Off-Ramp Closes Permanently Starting This Week
The southbound I-75 off-ramp onto Fifth Street in Covington (Exit 192) closes permanently on or after September 14 as part of the ongoing Brent Spence Corridor Project. Southbound drivers exiting at Exit 192 must now use Crescent Avenue, then turn right onto Third Street and right again onto Philadelphia Street to reach West Fifth Street. Detour signage will be posted. The northbound Fifth Street ramp remains open.

Longbranch Elementary Overflow Forces Boone County Redistricting Talk
Longbranch Elementary in Union has reached 110% capacity, with 989 students enrolled in a building designed for 900. Jot India and Scramblers Coming to Boone County's Union Promenade
Two restaurants will open at the $150 million Union Promenade development along U.S. 42 in Boone County before year's end. Jot India, a traditional Indian cuisine chain with an existing Florence location, will open a nearly 2,800-square-foot spot near Fifth Third Bank. Rebels Fall to Walton-Verona 25-8 in Home Non-District Loss
The Boone County Rebels dropped a home non-district matchup to the Walton-Verona Bearcats 25-8 on Friday night. Walton-Verona dominated on the ground, racking up 174 rushing yards and pulling away in the second half. Bearcat senior Cooper Burch has been a standout back this season, averaging 147 rushing yards per game with three rushing touchdowns. The Rebels hit the road next Friday, September 18, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Mason County in Maysville.

A Greek Revival farmhouse on Burlington Pike, 6.5 miles west of Burlington, has been standing since 1842. The family that built it is gone. Nearly everything else is still inside.

James Dinsmore was born in New Hampshire in 1790. He graduated from Dartmouth College, trained as a lawyer, and went south to work for a wealthy landowner near Natchez. In 1829, he married Martha Macomb of Georgetown, D.C., and settled in Louisiana, where their three daughters were born: Isabella in 1830, Julia in 1833, and Susan in 1835.

By 1831, James was running a 2,500-acre plantation on Bayou Black in Terrebonne Parish, growing sugarcane and cotton. He had invested heavily in the operation. The debt was substantial, and by the mid-1830s his health was failing alongside his finances. Then a letter arrived from his Uncle Silas, who wrote about a beautiful tract of land near the Ohio River in Boone County, Kentucky. He could raise grapes and make wine, keep sheep and goats, sell to Cincinnati's markets, and be near family. James bought 700 acres in Boone County in 1838 and spent four years winding down the Louisiana operation.

Construction on a new farmhouse began in 1841. The family arrived at Burlington Pike in 1842. Julia was nine years old. James Dinsmore had not come this far to sit still. He already had plans for the 700 acres, and he put all of them into motion at once.
